The Full Story

Buying a beach house in Bodega Bay has been a dream for many years, after vacationing here for the last 30 years. When the pandemic happened, I decided to review my bucket list and move my heart's deepest desire to the top of the list. I bought the home off market and started a bottom to top renovation. If you visit regularly, you may be surprised to find something new each time.
How Spare Time got its name: During the purchase process of the home, I rewatched Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds, famously filmed in Bodega Bay. The main character Melanie, played by Tippi Hedren, arrived at Annie’s home, played by Suzanne Pleshette. When Annie came from behind the house, winded, Tippi asked what she was doing. Annie replied, “working in the garden. Tippi said, “that sounds like it takes a lot of time.” Annie replied, “in Bodega Bay, we have a lot of spare time.”
The name Spare Time was born out of a piece of local history and because it seems to me the ultimate place to spend spare time.
Mission

When I visit vacation homes I evaluate how comfortable, clean, convenient, well-planned and aesthetically beautiful they are. It seems to me, many vacation homes are furnished with used, left over furniture and furnishings. I am pleasantly surprised when a home is thoughtfully put together. My mission with this home is to put thought and care into every detail-- to anticipate the needs of every visitor. If you have suggestions, I'd love to hear them!
